The documentary traces the ancient route followed by medieval pilgrims on their way from Northern Europe to Rome. A kind of travel diary, visiting the hospitals, monasteries and religious institutions that offered shelter and comfort to pilgrims heading for the Eternal City, it offers an opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of these unchanged places and feel the remarkable emotion of a spiritual communion with the world and other people.
